BALKAN BREAKFAST

balkan-breakfast
Opportunities for partnership between the countries in the region were discussed at a Balkan Breakfast conducted within Golden Rose Festival and occasioned by the 25th anniversary of Bulgarian National Film Center. The meeting was attended by the directors of the Film Centres of Greece, Macedonia and Bulgaria as well as by representatives of film institutions and of film critics’ communities from Balkan countries.

The benefits of financing regional coproductions, reciprocity in support, establishing of mutual funds at national and municipal levels; the functioning of film committees and film funds, of private-public partnerships as sources of finance, and various forms of receiving tax relief were among the key topics. Sharing experience between countries that are geographically close, speeds up development processes in the film industries, fostering cooperation that is more efficient.

The issue of film distribution is vital: it is easier for coproductions to reach audiences in other countries. Distribution of a coproduction in the country of the minority coproducer may possibly become a conditio sine qua non of coproduction agreements.
